Five Yummy and Wholesome Snack Foods

I love snacks.

I will repeat that statement: I love snacks.

Because sometimes all I need to get me through the afternoon is a little peanut butter. And other times a little chocolate ends the day of on a sweet note.

Yes, I often channel my inner hobbit and include at least two snacks a day, so this means that I've tried quite a few (maybe more than a few) different kinds of snacks. My family often makes our own snacks for the evening (goodies like brownies or peach cobbler), but I usually eat some fresh produce or pre-made snack in the afternoon. And when I went to American Academy of Ballet and depended upon cafeteria food for five weeks (see my story about AAB here), pre-made snacks saved my taste buds! And so here are my Five Fantabulous Favorite snacks that I discovered this summer and won't stop eating any time soon!

snack foods

1. Granola.
Mamma Chia Organic Wild Blueberry Chia Vitality Granola Clusters 9 oz

KIND Protein Peanut Butter Granola Clusters (I love anything peanut butter and so these couldn't lose! They weren't as crunchy as other granolas, though.)

KIND Raspberry with Chia Seeds Granola Clusters (This one has a light feel and great crunch to it with a sweet raspberry flavor! The pieces get smaller and smaller the deeper into the bag you reach, but I didn't mind.)

KIND Vanilla Blueberry Granola Clusters (This one looked and tasted similar to the raspberry granola with flax seeds instead of chia seeds. It also provides 28% of your daily fiber needs!)

Mama Chia Wild Blueberry Chia Granola Clusters (This granola tastes much different than the other ones mentioned. It has a thicker texture and more cluster like granola. Chia seeds cover the clusters and delicious dried blueberries are hidden in the dessert-like granola!)

My roommate and I liked all of these granolas. No, no. We loved these granolas, which means that we went through five bags bags in two weeks with no difficulty. Which brings me to the warning about buying these granolas: you may not be able to stop snacking! Luckily they are not only tasty but good for you with simple ingredients and lots of protein and other nutrients.

2. Apple Chips

Bare Organic Cinnamon Apple Chips, Gluten-Free + Baked, 2.2-Ounce Bags (Pack of 12)

I didn't get to eat many of these, but the few that I did eat hooked me to their crispy sweetness! And I've memorized the ingredients list: apples and cinnamon. So simple but delicious (especially with peanut butter). Which brings me to number three...

3. Justin's Honey Peanut Butter

Justins Honey Peanut Butter (3 Pack)

Peanut butter is my go-to snack. I eat a little bit all day, just a little spoonful here and forkful there. But I've never tried peanut butter like this stuff! Not only is it entertaining to read the label, but it tastes so natural and scrumptious! The texture is more grainy than Jif peanut butter and it separates more, but I learned that I like the grainy texture a lot. And the honey made this PB blast out of the sky! I only wish that it didn't cost twice as much! Why do the good foods always cost more?

4. Reduced Sugar Craisins
Ocean Spray Reduced Sugar Craisins 5 oz

I've always been team craisins over team raisins, but these made the dividing line all the more obvious! These cranberries taste a bit more like fruit and less like sugar candy (which I also like, but that's not why I eat dried fruit), and they also contain 10 grams of fiber! That's 40% of the recommended fiber needs! I'm all for it!

5. Dark Chocolate Pumpkin Seeds
barkTHINS Snacking Chocolate, Dark Chocolate Pumpkin Seed with Sea Salt, 4.7 Ounce

I saved the best for last! My Nana actually introduced my house to these beauties! They are thin sheets of great dark chocolate (and I'm picky about such things as dark chocolate) with crunchy little pumpkin seeds scattered throughout and the hint of salt balancing the sweetness with ease. Let me just take another bite from the bag an arm reach away to refresh my memory...

I hope your hungry now, hungry for some great and wholesome snack foods! Be careful next time you go to Target or you might spend more money than you anticipated! (All except the apple chips can be found at most Targets. Target does carry other brands of apple chips, I just wanted to use the one I tried as my example.)

Happy snacking!

  1. Yum! Gosh Hannah, now I'm hungry!! I'm definitely going to have to check for these next time I stop by Target- which, knowing me, will probably be like, tomorrow. I may or may not have a Target obsession...

    1. I can't wait to buy me some more apple chips, but they are a bit expensive, so I usually stick to the cheaper snack foods like granola. But I'm glad that we have similar tastes!
